Book Review

THE UNHONEYMOONERS by Christina Lauren

Rating: 4 / 5

After finishing a couple of heavy reads (quite literally in a couple cases given the size of these books!), I really needed something light and fun. Thankfully this book community had “made me” pick up THE HONEYMOONERS by Christina Lauren. I don’t read a lot of romance, but I do read some here and there and the raving reviews for this one convinced me.

THE UNHONEYMOONERS starts off with Olive Torres preparing for her identical twin Ami’s wedding. All seems to be going to plan as things tend to do until the reception when all the wedding guests save two get incredibly ill from contaminated fish! Olive is one of the lucky two thanks to her allergy to seafood and the groom’s brother Ethan (and of course Olive’s nemesis) is lucky guest number two. When it becomes clear that neither the bride nor groom are going to be able to make use of their all expenses paid free honeymoon package, Olive and Ethan take off for Hawaii, posing as happy newlyweds. Situation comedy and romance of ensues!

Though an identical twin, Olive and Ami couldn’t be more different. While Ami is used to getting her way, having nearly her entire wedding paid for through giveaways and sponsors, Olive is used to things going wrong. Having recently been laid off, this free vacation couldn’t have come at a better time. I could really identify with Olive’s stress level and the need to get away! Ethan’s decision making and loyalties were a bi frustrating at times, but overall I liked their relationship.

This was such a fun book, so I’m glad that Bookstagram steered forced me to add this to a recent book order. It was just the change of pace I needed after my recent reads as well. This type of novel creates situations which push the boundaries of believability, but leave you not caring because they produce good laughs and great fun!
