I’LL BE THERE FOR YOU by Kelsey Miller

Rating: 4 / 5

Nonfiction November was a good excuse to pick up I’LL BE THERE FOR YOU: THE ONE ABOUT FRIENDS by Kelsey Miller which I received in my September Books & Baths box along with some other great Friends inspired goodies. I’m a little obsessed with this bookmark!

Any favorite Friends episodes/moments? I don’t know why, but one that sticks with me is Chandler and Joey trying to decide which of two babies left behind on the bus is baby Ben. One is in an outfit with ducks, one with clowns and they decide to flip a coin (because sure!) and it comes up heads.

Joey: Ducks is heads, because ducks have heads.
(Pause… think about it… wait for it…)
Chandler: What kind of scary-ass clowns came to your birthday?

Friends is a TV show that was a cultural phenomenon. This book goes through the show’s history from it’s conception to the recruiting of the six friends who would stay on screens for ten years, through the shows ups and downs and all the way to the show’s conclusion and lasting impacts. It touches on some of the problem areas (the lack of representation) and looks at serious subjects such as the impact of 9/11 and sexual harassment in the writers room. I wouldn’t say this book produced anything revolutionary or groundbreaking but it was a fun read with some extra behind the scenes info that kept me flipping the pages.

This is a fun, light read for anyone who enjoyed the sitcom either in its heyday or in reruns on any of the many stations that carried it.
