Book Review

GOOD OMENS by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

Rating: 4 / 5

GOOD OMENS by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman was one of many books I found on my shelf for my book with a book on the cover reading prompt and the one that won the poll I put up on Insta! This is another book that has been on my TBR for a long time so I was glad to finally get to it!

GOOD OMENS follows angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley. They have been given the task of overseeing the antichrist born ten years prior and swapped in for a human baby with the help of some satanic nuns. Now, the apocalypse is coming near and the antichrist is meant to come into his power, but it seems they have somehow been tracking the wrong boy all this time! Meanwhile they realize that having spent most of their time around humans, they kind of like the world as it is and would hate to lose all the luxuries of human existence to the end of the world so decide to do something about it.

This book was such a fun read – so bizarre and over the top funny in all the best ways! I actually wound up reading it almost entirely on audio and I would highly recommend it in that format. There is so much going on in the book with footnotes giving side jokes and anecdotes and they were very well incorporated into the audio.

There is a lot going on in this book, quite a few extra characters and tangents which can sometimes overwhelm me in books. In this case, I really decided not to worry about it and just take in the humor and I loved it all! I feel like this is a book I could read / listen to multiple times and pick up even more of the jokes and side stories that the authors throw in!

I definitely want to check out the Amazon adaptation of this one in the future. If you’ve seen it, let me know your thoughts! In the meantime I absolutely recommend this one, especially on audio!
