Monday Reading Check In

Monday Reading Check In

Thank you to Elizabeth Weitzman for the complimentary copy of RENEGADE WOMEN IN FILM & TV.

Rating: 5/5

Hello book friends! I hope you are all having a wonderful Monday and are finding ways to find happiness in these troubling times. Since the world is far from normal right now, I thought I would also change up my reading check in today and feature and review a book that I have been reading throughout the month.

RENEGADE WOMEN IN FILM & TV by Elizabeth Weitzman was a perfect book for National Women’s Month! It is a book that features fifty women who have made amazing advancements in the world of entertainment even when the field has often been fairly male dominated. The book hits on so many aspects of film and TV with actresses, directors, sport casters and journalists among so many other fields. Each profile is accompanied by amazing illustrations by Austen Claire Clements that bring these successful women to life. Intermingled with the profiles there are interviews with several of these great women. You even get some bonus materials with an essential viewing list!

I really enjoyed picking up this book throughout the month to read a few profiles. There were faces I immediately recognized and names of course I knew, but there were many women working behind the scenes as well that were fascinating to read about. This is of course just a highlight of some of the women who have made an impact on the world of film and television and I am sure it was a difficult challenge to narrow down the field for this book. I was very impressed with the variety that the author managed to include!

This was an excellent read for Women’s History Month, but really an excellent read for any month. I would recommend that you add this to your TBR! This is one that I will revisit for sure!

I do have a couple more books in the works with the hope of maybe finishing one or two more books before the end of the month:

I think I had mentioned starting SIX OF CROWS by Leigh Bardugo earlier in the month, but I set it aside as I was starting it at a time when my ability to focus was really low. I finally picked this one back up and now that I’m about 100 pages in I am really enjoying this one. I think there were a lot of characters at the beginning in addition to a new world to really absorb when I was distracted by real world issues. Now that I’m getting to know the characters I am enjoying them and the promise of an impossible heist to come has me eager to keep reading.

I just started IN FIVE YEARS by Rebecca Serle as well and I’m already intrigued. Our main character Dannie Cohan is about to get her dream job and her dream husband and her dream life. On the night of her engagement, after indulging in a bit too much champagne, Dannie wakes up in a different bed, in a different apartment and with a different man. It is five years in the future according to the TV and she is understandably freaked out. When she next wakes up she is back in the life she knew, though she’s not entirely sure what just happened. That is as far as I’ve gotten so far, but I’m hooked!

THE STARLESS SEA by Erin Morgernstern is still in progress for a buddy read that is continuing on into April. I am still really enjoying this one!

Did you get any good reading in this weekend? What are you currently reading?

    1. I have been reading it and print, but I think I’m going to try to get the audio for it as well because I’m curious how they translated all of the story-within-a-story features!
