A fun flashback picture to the days when it was still easy to get cupcakes! This is for sure a comfort food and comfort read picture! THE MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR AT STYLES by Agatha Christie was my pick for a book by an author on the Abe List of 100 Essential Female Writers and it is doing double duty as a book from a series of more than 20 books since this is the book that introduces us to Christie’s famed Hercule Poirot who goes on to solve many more cases!
THE MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR AT STYLES is set in the English countryside. Mrs. Emily Inglethor was last seen entertaining her family and guests, but in the morning she is found poisoned in her locked bedroom. There are no shortage of potential suspects, but Hercule Poirot is invited in to help investigate the puzzling circumstances of her death.
I have spent a lot of time trying different books and genres to hook my attention amidst the distractions of recent days and a murder mystery accomplished that! I do really enjoy Poirot and his snarky demeanor, even though I likely would not actually want to be the one to work with him given his preference for keeping his thoughts to himself.
Though I did read quite a few Christie novels when I was young, this isn’t one that I remembered and the mystery did keep me guessing. There was a certain comfort in the surety that our inspector would solve the case in the end and I was not disappointed!
