I have been participating in a readalong of Brandon Sanderson’s The Stormlight Archive series over the past few months. These books are huge (the UK editions I picked up are actually split into two still hefty books), so I’m glad to be reading along with others.
OATHBRINGER is the third book in The Stormlight Archive. As with the prior books, this is set on a world which deals with powerful and deadly storms on a regular basis and a world at war. As the series has continued we get more insights into the background of why the powers are at war. Along with the warring factions are other creatures called spren which come in countless forms which rely on the physical world and feelings with types such as wind spren and pain spren. These creatures too are becoming more known as the series continues.
It is hard to say a lot of specifics about the plot of the novel since we’re a couple thousand pages into the world development at this point, but I did really enjoy the novel. Each book builds upon the last (this is absolutely a series which needs to be read in order) and the characters grow and change well over time. It is a large cast of characters which was a bit of a struggle in book one of the series, but at this point I feel connected to our main players and am eager to keep reading as the perspectives and relationships continue to shift.
I am a bit ahead of the reading schedule as the live show for book two was just held last weekend, so I don’t have any Stormlight Archive reading on my December TBR, but I do have the fourth installment on its way to me for January’s TBR and I’m looking forward to continuing with these characters!
