Happy Monday! It’s a chilly and windy one here in Southern California with the promise of potentially more rain this week. I hope your final week of January is off to a good start! We did get some rain over the weekend which made for a good backdrop for sitting and reading next to the window. While I do have a few books I’m hoping to finish up before the month ends, this has been one of my best reading months ever so I’m setting the reading bar high for 2021!
In this week’s caffeine fueled update, I am currently reading THE WITCH’S HEART by Genevieve Gornichec. I didn’t know much about the plot going into this one, but hearing that it was a retelling surrounding Norse mythology had me intrigued. Our main character Angrboda has been burned by Odin multiple times, punishments for failing to use her witch powers to give him the information he wants. When she finally escapes, it is Loki who finds her and together they fall in love and build an unusual family. I’m a bit past the halfway point and looking forward to chatting about this one during a buddy read chat today before finishing the rest!
In other reads this week, I actually only have one. I started WHEN WE LEFT CUBA by Chanel Cleeton last night on audio. I really enjoyed the author’s NEXT YEAR IN HAVANA when it first came out, but I haven’t kept up with the series. In this one we follow Beatriz who has lost everything in the wake of the Cuban Revolution. She is recruited by the CIA to act as a spy in Fidel Castro’s inner circle and I am excited to get further into the story!
