Book Review

THE RAVENS by Kass Morgan & Danielle Paige

Rating: 3.5 / 5

I received THE RAVENS by Kass Morgan & Danielle Paige in my YA Once Upon a Book Club box. I had seen this one pop up in the book universe a few times, but didn’t know a lot about it.

THE RAVENS is set at Westerly College where Kappa Rho Nu is the most elite sororities on campus. It is more than just part of the Greek system, however, because the sorority sisters are all actually witches. The story follows two main characters. As a legacy member, Scarlett has had Kappa Rho Nu in her sights for as long as she can remember. The pressure from her mother is real to become the sorority’s next president, but she’s harboring a dark secret that complicates things. The other perspective is that of Vivi, a new initiate for whom this world of magic is all new.

I enjoyed this dark read! I definitely enjoy a dark academia type setting and fantasy reads, so that drew me into picking this one up. I was instantly intrigued by the magical system. I liked Vivi from the beginning and appreciated her somewhat naïve perspective as she was learning this new world just as the reader was. Scarlett was initially a little harder to connect to as she gave of some distinctly mean girl vibes, but even she grew on me as the book progressed.

The secrets that Scarlett is keeping add some thriller like elements of danger and mystery to the story which I appreciated. While it wasn’t a blow me away type of read it was a lot of fun and I’m glad this one made it to my door!
