Book Review

TRUTHWITCH by Susan Dennard

Rating: 3.5 / 5

TRUTHWITCH by Susan Dennard has been on my TBR for quite a while, so when I saw a #Witchlandsalong readalong announced, I decided to order the books and join it.

TRUTHWITCH is set in a world with many different types of magic. Safi is a Truthwitch which means she has the very rare ability to tell truth from a lie. This is a highly coveted type of magic and people would kill to control her. Safi is on the run with her friend Iseult, trying to escape capture from the Bloodwitch (whose magic allows him to sense the power in others) on their trail.

This book really dumps you into the middle of the action starting from page one and it really never lets up. While I do enjoy the action and pace of the book, it does make it very difficult to catch on to all of the details of what is going on.

This is a world with a lot of different political systems, different types of magic, and potential for war happening very soon so there is a lot to learn and keep straight. I decided with this one I couldn’t get hung up on memorizing all of the details, but just to go with the flow and I did enjoy reading it. I’m hopeful that continuing the series will give me better grasp of everything that is going on.

Watching the live show for the readalong, I was glad to hear I wasn’t the only one with confusion on some of the details. I am looking forward to continuing on with the next Witchlands book very soon.
