Book Review

THE HERO OF AGES by Brandon Sanderson

Rating: 5 / 5

After reading and loving THE WELL OF ASCENSION by Brandon Sanderson last month, I was very excited to pick up THE HERO OF AGES as the final installment in the initial Mistborn trilogy.

It is really hard to say anything about a conclusion to a trilogy without giving spoilers for the previous books. That seems to be especially true for this series which has tons of twists and turns along the way. If you aren’t familiar with the series, it is set in a world where a dark lord ruler has won control. We follow a group of rebels and criminals as they seek to overthrow the ruler.

Though I think this one was a little bit shorter than the previous installment, these are pretty sizable books. Still, I absolutely flew through it! They read a lot faster than you might expect and the language and writing is extremely approachable. I love that Brandon Sanderson’s magic systems are so different in each of his series, but still they have a sense of understandable logic behind them. Even with a huge cast in these books, he does a great job of reminding the reader of everything they need to know along the way.

Brandon Sanderson does not pull punches and these books will play with your emotions and break your heart at times, but I found the conclusion to the trilogy very satisfying. These books tempted me for a long time but intimidated me with their length, but I am so glad that I did read them because I loved the entire trilogy!
