Book Review

WILD by Cheryl Strayed

Rating: 4 / 5

I have been participating in the #RoryGilmoreBookClub this year and for July, I decided to pick WILD by Cheryl Strayed for my adventure read because it is definitely a book I associate with the show’s revival. I don’t get very “wild” when it comes to my ventures into nature, but I did bring the book along as my audiobook while walking my dog Kylee around the neighborhood!

WILD is the memoir of Cheryl Strayed’s experience walking the Pacific Coast Trail from the Mojave Desert to Washington State. She has been through her mother’s death, has lost most contact with her other family and her marriage had just fallen apart as well. She makes a very impetuous decision to take off on the trail as a way to find herself.

This is so NOT a vacation plan I would ever partake in and some of the more grueling aspects were difficult to read about, but it made for a very interesting read! She is very honest in the ways she was wholly unprepared for this journey (not one that really should be taken without appropriate training and provisions), but she also talks about the highlights of meeting new people on similar journeys and discovering a world almost entirely off the map.

I personally will be sticking with my walks with Kylee in the streets and parks around my home, but I did really enjoy the audiobook experience with this one!
