Book Review

GAME ON by Janet Evanovich

Rating: 3.5 / 5

I have enjoyed the Stepahnie Plum series by Janet Evanovich so I was thrilled when I won a copy of the latest installment, GAME ON, from @nurse_bookie and Atria Books!

Stephanie is awakened in the middle of the night to find a man in her apartment… Diesel. Diesel is someone she’s known off and on over the years and a guy she doesn’t entirely have a full read on. It turns out he’s ready to settle right into her life because one of the jobs she’s on as a bounty hunter overlaps with the guy he’s looking for too though he isn’t too open about the why of it all.

Soon Stephanie is wrapped up in a case involving a hacker with some very dark and disturbing bad habits of killing and torturing. The usual cast of characters are all here, some more than others, and drama and comedy ensues!

This series is very formulaic and it does require a lot of suspension of disbelief, but these books are very fun read. They’re full of comedy and action and food. Diesel isn’t my favorite of Stephanie’s leading men and the book was lacking a bit in Ranger, but overall it provided exactly the pick me up, fun read that I was expecting!

These books work quite well as standalones so the fact that the series is long shouldn’t scare readers off. Each novel reintroduces the characters and the basic premise. While some relationships have evolved over the series, these books live outside of the world as we know it. Technology may change with the times, but the characters don’t age and you can expect to have a happy ending when all is said and done!
