Book Review

THE HATING GAME by Sally Thorne

I received a gifted copy of THE HATING GAME by Sally Thorne! Thank you to William Morrow Books!

Rating: 4 / 5

THE HATING GAME follows Lucy Hutton, a young woman working on advancing her career. In her way is her arch nemesis, Joshua Templeman. He is right in front of her every work day with endless games of mutual annoyance and one-upmanship. Their approaches to work and to life always seem at odds.

When a promotion comes available, both Lucy and Josh are up for the job and it’s yet another way where they need to beat each other down to get ahead. Problem is, they’ve started to find some common ground along the way and temper may turn into something more.

This was 100% a bookstagram made me read it book. I had read the author’s 99 PERCENT previously and really did not get along with that book at all, so I was hesitant to say the least. Several people promised me that this book was a LOT better and my issues with the book I had read were entirely different here. I am glad I decided to pick this one up!

I really enjoyed Lucy as a character and the banter/rivalry with Josh. We’re not entirely sure what is going on in Josh’s head most of the time and it was interesting to get to follow along and try to figure out his reasons for doing what he’s doing. I think as a reader we’re able to catch on to where Lucy is misreading things a lot sooner than she does, but it made for a fun read.

I am very glad that I took a chance on revisiting Sally Thorne. I did also check out the movie when it came out and enjoyed that as well!
