Book Review

IN ANOTHER LIGHT by A. J. Banner

Rating: 4 / 5

I received IN ANOTHER LIGHT by A.J. Banner in my adult Once Upon a Book Club and the premise sounded really intriguing!

IN ANOTHER LIGHT follows Phoebe, a cosmetologist who is channeling her artistic side by working on beautifying the dead to help their loved ones find closure though she’s lacking that same closure herself. Once a wife and mother, Phoebe is now alone with her grief after losing her family in a horrifying crash. When a new body arrives that is nearly a mirror image of Phoebe with a tattoo she recognizes, it stirs up all sorts of questions. When a photo of Phoebe is found in the deceased’s possessions, she needs answers.

This book really kept me guessing through the twists and turns. As we learn more about Phoebe’s life before her family’s accident, we get to know more about her struggles and why she’s so closed off to much of her life and her art. She’s caught up in the history and what should have been, which is understandable given the trauma she endured.

This isn’t a book where I always loved the central character. Some of her decisions were frustrating, but it was also a situation where I could understand why she did what she did because it made sense in her own traumatized mind. The situations she found herself in were tough and led to more and more questions that really kept me flipping pages!

I really enjoyed this one and as always, really enjoyed the experience of getting to open some gifts along the way! If you are interested in subscribing to any of the Once Upon A Book Club boxes, DGREADS10 will give you 10% off your first order!
