I received a gifted audiobook of BOOK LOVERS by Emily Henry for an honest review. Thank you to Penguin Random House Audio!
Rating: 5 / 5
BOOK LOVERS follows Nora, a woman who lives her life devoted to books. She’s always loved books and now she makes a living as a literary agent, an excellent advocate for her clients in their writing pursuits. In her personal life, Nora does not expect a happily ever after. She’s used to being the career woman involved with the story’s hero until they head to a small town to find themselves and true love.
Nora’s sister Libby is pregnant with baby number three, so when she tells Nora she needs a break with an extended sister’s trip away during the slowest month in publishing’s year, Nora says yes. Her sister is determined that they live out some of those romance novel tropes that they learned to love from their late mother. Unfortunately, it is Charlie that Nora keeps bumping into. Charlie is the editor who brutally turned down one of her client’s new books, a relationship that started out on the wrong foot.
BOOK LOVERS was one of my most anticipated reads of the year after really enjoying Emily Henry’s BEACH READ and PEOPLE WE MEET ON VACATION. A favorite author and a bookish book sounded like a perfect match. I am happy to say that it lived up to my hopes. This book was exactly what I wanted it to be!
I loved the way Emily Henry played with romantic tropes from books and film, actually acknowledging them in the book and flipping many of them on their head. I really enjoyed the banter and bickering between Charlie and Nora as well as their discussions about books, both the good and the bad.
I really enjoyed the family relationship between Nora and Libby. After their mother’s death, Nora stepped in as the parental figure, always seeking to help her sister and her growing family. The relationship is going through some growing pains which were very interesting to explore as well.
This was a fantastic audiobook and an excellent book to settle into! I highly recommend picking BOOK LOVERS up!
