Monday Morning Check In

Monday Reading Check In

Happy Monday, friends! This weekend it really felt like summer kicked into high gear. Kylee and I spent much of our time running from the sun and trying to keep cool. I even broke down and turned on the AC… so good luck to me when my energy bill comes! It was a good weekend for reading, playing with my new espresso machine, and doing some beading and crafting… some of which went well, some less so, but was enjoyable all the same. I am actually a bit sore today from sitting intently working on my projects for so long!

This week is Summerween and I am leaning into it with a week of thriller and horror reads. I’ve actually finished most of the actual readathon prompts, with my current read, JUST AFTER SUNSET by Stephen King, being for the final prompt to read a book with Halloween colors on the cover. This is a short story collection and I am really having fun sprinkling in some short stories between my longer reads.

This book has a good mix of different types of stories and so far I have enjoyed them all, some of course more than others. I did discover that Scribd was missing some of the stories on their audio (which is just not okay) so I have been listening to some stories and physically reading others. I do like that the audio has a mix of narrators, with Stephen King himself narrating at least one of the stories.

The rest of my reading plans for this week are to mostly mood read and grab some random thrillers/horrors that have been on my shelf to give them a try. I’m currently just in the middle of one other book, STAY AWAKE by Megan Goldin (thank you to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for the ALC). This is the story of a woman with a type of amnesia that makes her memory reset to two years ago every time she falls asleep. We’re following her in two timelines, the present and the time before whatever happened to cause this break from her own timeline. I started this last night and I am already nearly two-thirds of the way through and can’t wait to finish today!

My only definite planned read for this week is THE WOMAN IN THE LIBRARY by Sulari Gentill for #SaturdayBookstaClub, so I can’t wait to see where the mood reading takes me next!

I hope your week is off to a fantastic start! What are you reading today? I’d love to hear!
