I received FAKE IT TILL YOU BAKE IT by Jamie Wesley in my adult Once Upon a Book Club box. I had already heard good things about this one and it was recommended to me as a cupcake fan, so I was glad to get it onto my TBR! Given that today is my birthday, it seemed the perfect book to feature with my adorable furry cupcake!
FAKE IT TILL YOU BAKE IT is set in a cupcake shop. When Jada first walks in she isn’t impressed with the setup which puts her at odds with the owner, professional football player Donovan. When Donovan’s agent asks him to put her granddaughter to work, he’s shocked and dismayed to find out that Jada is the granddaughter.
Jada is at the center of a lot of attention after her appearance on a reality dating show. She captured the bachelor’s heart, but turned down the proposal using her attention for someone back home as an excuse. When a reporter makes the assumption that Donovan is the man she left behind, Jada and Donovan find themselves posing as a couple in the view of the public.
This book had me at cupcakes! Do not read this one hungry – it is potentially dangerous to the diet! I found this an overall fun read. I didn’t entirely love Jada initially – I am not one for public dating on reality shows and her turning up her nose at the cupcake shop felt a little extreme to me in the beginning. Of course, I understood the need for some conflict between our two protagonists for the sake of plot, but it did feel a bit extreme. That said, I did grow to like Jada a lot. I mean she does get really into a book club setup so what isn’t to love? I did really like Jada and Donovan together as well and they way they were able to openly share ideas for the business and their lives as well.
This was a really fun read and I enjoyed the gifts that went along with it. Once Upon a Book Club is always on point with their packaging, but they really did a fantastic job with this one.
