DAUGHTER OF THE MOON GODDESS by Sue Lynn Tan

Rating: 4 / 5

I received this gorgeous edition of DAUGHTER OF THE MOON GODDESS by Sue Lynn Tan in a Fairy Loot box. I had heard mixed things about this one but was excited to pick it up!

DAUGHTER OF THE MOON GODDESS follows Xingyin. Xingyin has grown up with her mother on the moon, never knowing that she was not meant to exist. Her mother has been keeping her secret all these years. When her magic begins to emerge, it draws the attention of those who exiled her mother to the moon and she is sent away for her own protection.

Xingyin goes to the Celestial Kingdom where she takes the opportunity to learn at the emperor’s son’s side. Soon she finds herself one of the most skilled archers in the land. She works to serve the kingdom, all the while trying to find a way to free her mother from her exile on the moon.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, but I wound up really enjoying it. I found it pretty easy to get into initially, but it was fairly slow in the beginning until Xingyin made it to the kingdom. There were places where I wanted a bit more from the story (I would have loved to hear more about some of her early battles against the beasts threatening the kingdom), but overall the story kept me hooked and reading. I wound up finishing the entire book in just a little over a day.

This is the first book in a duology with HEART OF THE SUN WARRIOR due out later this year and I definitely will look to pick that one up to see where the story goes. I felt like this one did a pretty good job of wrapping up the story. It didn’t feel like it had major cliffhangers, even though it definitely leaves some threads of the story yet to be wrapped up.
