Monday Reading Check In

I received a gifted advanced copy of GOODBYE EARL by Leesa Cross-Smith from Grand Central Publishing.

Happy Monday, friends! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Mine was quick but pretty good. I got some good reading in and also some reading procrastination with other things. We celebrated father’s day a bit early with pizza at my parents house on Saturday and then Sunday was for plant shopping and reading and video games. I do have a few books started that I didn’t quite get finished up over the weekend (and for some reason started one more this morning) so my first priority this week is to actually finish some of them!

When I saw that Leesa Cross-Smith had a new book coming out, I was very excited as I’ve really enjoyed her writing in the past. This book sounded right up my alley as well. We’re following two timelines. In 2004, four best friends are finishing up high school, experiencing first loves, and generally looking forward to the future. In 2019, one of those four is coming back to town for the first time since high school. Though she’s stayed in touch with her friends, they don’t even know the reason she’s stayed so distant for so long.

This was sold as a revenge story and a friendship story and I’m all in for both. There are already a few men in here who really deserve a goodbye so I can’t wait to see how this develops. I love the friendship between these four as well and the way they’re a found family even with the distance between them over the years. I’m excited to see where this one goes! GOODBYE EARL comes out 7/3!

In other reading, I’ve just barely started LAST ARGUMENT OF KINGS by Joe Abercrombie which is the final book in the initial First Law trilogy. This is one that I really want to take slow, reading a bit (hopefully) each day ahead of the next Catch Up Bookclub live show.

DELICOUS MONSTERS by Liselle Sambury (gifted copy from Simon & Schuster) is the first book I’m hoping to finish off today. This is another one with two timelines and it’s a combination of a present day investigation for a podcast dealing in haunted sites looking into a past occurrence. In that past, our main character can see dead people in the site the podcast is investigating. I’m really enjoying the mix of real life dramas and supernatural in this one.

Lastly, I am reading DROWNING by T.J. Newman which is for #SaturdayBookstaClub and a highly anticipated read. Thankfully it is so far living up to my hopes for it and I am hooked and excited to finish it. From the very first page, a plane is going down with no other options and when it lands in the water the disaster keeps building. It is high energy and very much keeping me on the edge of my seat (and glad I have a few months before I have to get on a plane).

What are you #CurrentlyReading? I’d love to hear!
