ZERO DAYS by Ruth Ware follows Jack, a young woman who has been hired along with her husband Gabe as penetration specialists, people tasked with testing their clients’ security systems. Jack takes on the on site break-ins while Gabe works the computers from the outside. This job is not without its dangers and when Jack is arrested after the most recent adrenaline filled job, she is held until she can prove that she is indeed authorized to be breaking in. What Jack doesn’t know is that while she is being held, something else has gone horribly wrong and she is soon on the run trying to find answers.
This is a book where I don’t suggest reading the actual synopsis on the flap. I didn’t and really didn’t know what to expect going into the book beyond what I wrote above and I think that really helped make this a better read for me. I really liked Jack and Gabe and their relationship, so I was pulling for Jack as we follow along in her head.
I found this book to be fairly predictable. I guessed pretty early on who the ultimate bad guy would be and guessed a few of the turns we took along the way, but it was still a fun time following along. This was an easy book to just sit and binge read and I think that’s probably the best way to go about it without trying to pick at the plot threads.
I will throw in a trigger warning for some pretty disturbing bodily injuries so if you’re a bit iffy around medical stuff, this might be one to skip!
Overall this was a really fun read and probably fairly high on my list of favorite Ruth Ware reads!
