Monday Morning Check In

Monday Reading Check In

Thank you to Penguin Random House and Netgalley for the gifted copy of NEVER WHISTLE AT NIGHT!

Happy Monday, once again, friends! I hope that you had a fantastic Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving weekend for those celebrating and a fantastic weekend in general for all! My Thanksgiving was good, spending dinner on the actual day with family and some time with friends over the weekend as well. Even with a long weekend and a lot of down time, I was fully exhausted yesterday and pretty much just dozed my way through the day with the TV. I did get some weekend reading in, but not nearly as much as I had planned. That just means I have a lot of good reading ahead this week, though!

In my #CurrentlyReading pile, I am really enjoying NEVER WHISTLE AT NIGHT which is a collection of short stories by Indigenous Authors under the label of ‘dark fiction’. It is edited by Shane Hawk and Theodore C. Fan Alst Jr. with a foreward by Stephen Graham Jones. I am having a fantastic time reading a few stories a day from this collection, each very different from the one prior. I recognize a number of the authors, but there are quite a few new names to me that are adding to my ‘authors to watch’ list!

The collection features: Norris Black, Amber Blaeser-Wardzala, Phoenix Boudreau, Cherie Dimaline, Carson Faust, Kelli Jo Ford, Kate Hart, Shane Hawk, Brandon Hobson, Darcie Little Badger, Conley Lyons, Nick Medina, Tiffany Morris, Tommy Orange, Mona Susan Power, Marcie R. Rendon, Waubgeshig Rice, Rebecca Roanhorse, Andrea L. Rogers, Morgan Talty, D.H. Trujillo, Theodore C. Van Alst Jr., Richard Van Camp, David Heska Wanbli Weiden, Royce K. Young Wolf, and Mathilda Zeller. The stories mix real life horror with the paranormal and fantastical, blending dark and creepy with a lot of great twists! I am looking forward to finishing this up over the next week or so!

In other reading, I am finishing up my reread of MORNING STAR by Pierce Brown and I’ve just started THE MYSTERY GUEST by Nita Prose (the second book in her Molly the Maid series). I am really enjoying both!

What are you starting off your week reading? I’d love to hear!
