Monday Reading Check In

Monday Reading Check In

Happy Monday book friends! It’s a rainy day in SoCal (a true rarity) and it really made it hard to get out of bed this morning. I’d much rather still be curled up with Kylee listening to the rain outside! The weekend was a bit rainy as well which was nice. Kylee and I went for a walk in the rain (any excuse to put her in a cute raincoat) and we mostly lazed around reading and crocheting. I did make a start on packing for my vacation at the beginning of February which is exciting and at least a bit productive!

I ended the weekend with a few books in progress and my priority for today is to hopefully finish at least one or two of them. For today’s #CoffeeAndCurrentlyReading, I am prioritizing THE OUTSIDERS by S.E. Hinton for the #ClassicsBuddyRead since we have a chat for it on Sunday! I am really enjoying this one overall. It was written when the author was just a teenager herself, so I think she does well at capturing the teenage POV. I have had a few issues here and there about the writing itself, but the story is really well done and I can’t wait to discuss it with our group. It seems we’ve started the year with a book that most are enjoying!

In other reading, I’m still working on THE CROWN OF SWORDS by Robert Jordan. I’m over 40% in (barely) so making good progress. I think I can maybe manage to finish this up in January which will help out my overburdened February TBR a lot!

I am also in the middle of THE KING OF CROWS by Libba Bray, the final book in The Diviners series. This is a long one and it feels long, even though I have enjoyed the series overall. I think there are just a lot of moving parts that need to be wrapped up in the series with the different relationships and such and it’s taking a while to get there.

Lastly, I started LEAVE NO TRACE by A.J. Landau (gifted ARC from Minotaur Books, out 2/27/2024) last night, planning to just read a bit during some reading sprints. I wound up reading over half the book which is a lot for a book where I only have the physical copy. It’s got short chapters and a lot going on to make me want to continue.

How was your weekend? What are you currently reading? I’d love to hear!
