The Eclipsed Evolution Series is a series of three novellas released over three months between April and June 2024. A solar eclipse opens a portal between our world and another realm. Renee is asked to going a secret government project, studying the “Neighbors” who have come over from this paranormal realm. These beings look like the human idea of demons, though they claim to be peaceful.
The Neighbors are from a dying world, hoping to work with the humans’ world to save their own. They bring new technology that feels like magic and are able to rapidly adapt to Earth’s conditions and the English language. As the series continues, more get involved as they walk the line between keeping secrets and protecting everyone’s interests.
I really enjoyed the way this was released as a rapid-fire serialized story. I listened to each of the stories and each had me eager to pick up the next book. I really enjoyed learning about the Neighbors and the different ways they were interacting with Earth. Learning about the government cover up and the way Renee had a different approach to befriending her main Neighbor contact August was interesting as well.
I wound up picking up the third book from the library when it came up and while I did still enjoy the series, I do think that the story felt a little bit unfinished in some ways. The series does take on a lot for three novellas which were only around six hours of audiobook each. While the story does wrap up in a lot of ways, I do think the author has left room to expand in the future.
