EVERYONE THIS CHRISTMAS HAS A SECRET by Benjamin Stevenson

Rating: 4.5 / 5

EVERYONE THIS CHRISTMAS HAS A SECRET by Benjamin Stevenson is the third installment in the Ernest Cunningham mystery series. This one is a novella Christmas special and it brings the tropes of a typical Christmas special to the usual series antics.

Ernest is making a trek in secret to look into the death of a wealthy individual where the number one suspect happens to be someone Ernest knows and cares about. The investigation delves into magic tricks along with detective work, with Ernest putting his own life on the line once again.

This series has been so much fun and I was really excited to see a Christmas installment come out. When I did my festive reading last year, I wasn’t yet hooked on the series to pick up this book, but I knew I had to include it in my holiday reading this year.

The author uses Ernest’s monologue and discussions with the reader to drop hints and also misdirect and I think it is done in a very clever way. The nods to the season and Ernest’s commentary on the ‘special edition’ status of this holiday caper also made the book!
