Monday Reading Check In

Monday Reading Check In

I received a complimentary audiobook of RAZORBLADE TEARS by S.A. Cosby thanks to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley!

Happy Monday folks! I’m sure I’m not alone in dragging this morning and wondering where the weekend went? It was a good weekend full of reading and book chats and even a cupcake run, but it disappeared all too quickly! It is looking to be a busy week to come as well!

Last night I started reading RAZORBLADE TEARS which just released last Tuesday. I made it my BOTM pick for the month and was also just approved for the audiobook on Netgalley so I’m doing a combo read and listen. The book begins with the funeral of two young men, Isaiah and Derek, who have been brutally murdered because they were gay, because they were a mixed race couple, or likely both. Their fathers Ike and Buddy Lee come together because they want answers and don’t trust the police to solve the crime.

This story has sucked me in right away. These fathers are compelling characters. They are far from perfect and each must deal with their grief both in losing their son and also knowing they did not fully accept their sons’ sexuality while there was still time. Still, their own sometimes dark pasts give them some insights and inroads to answers as to what happened to their sons. I love how they are getting to learn more about their sons’ lives as they begin their investigation.

In other reading, I am about halfway into ISN’T IT BROMANTIC? (out from Berkley on 7/20/21). This is the fourth book in the Bromance Book Club series. While I haven’t read the prior books, I certainly knew the premise from all the booksta love for the series and it has been easy to pick up without reading the prior novels. This book follows Vlad and his wife Elena who have a marriage of convenience. Problem is Vlad is hopelessly in love with his wife and she plans to go back to Russia to become a journalist while he is tied to his hockey team. I do love seeing the friendships Vlad has and the support his friends offer. I have a sneaking suspicion that there’s a happy ending in Vlad’s future!

July is nearly half over and I don’t know where the time has gone! How has your reading month been so far? What are you currently reading?
